Phaelia Things I Want

Published on October 1, 2007 by Phaelia

I’d like to share a few of my desires for the World … of Warcraft:

  • I want an addon that makes a cat “MREOW!” sound every time I use Pounce. And one that makes the sound of a rocket going off whenever I Feral Charge (Rocket Bear).
  • I want a non-combat pet that’s really a dog and NOT an ugly Worg. Oh and one of those cute skunk critters you find in Terrokar Forest.
  • I want more interesting “flavor” bits to be found in chests while fishing. One can only use a smoke flare beside someone and use the /stink emote so many times before it’s not funny anymore (I have been told the number of times where it’s actually funny is somewhere between 0 and 1).

  • I want out of combat resurrection. And it shall have purple light to indicate its vast superiority over that possessed by all other healing classes, thus ensuring that they never be offered groups again.
  • I want a flying Unicorn. This is about the only flying mount I’d be willing to grind reputation for and pay extra money to acquire. I had hopes for the new Cenarion Expedition flying mount, but alas, it’s a Hippogryph.
  • Along those same lines, I want to be able to carry gnomes on my back in Flight Form, Cheetah Form, and Bear Form. Mounting would have to be with mutual consent, of course. “Nesbit would like to mount you. Do you agree? Yes/No/Report Sexual Harassment”
  • I want to win the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. And I want to smack people fishing in my Tasty Fish pools with a week old, 10 lb. salmon.
  • I want an addon that gives me points for maintaining Heals over Time. And shouts “Combo!”, “Combo x 2!”, etc. when I get multiple HoTs running. Extra point modifiers for keeping them running on multiple targets (1 target = 100%, 2 targets = 150%, 3 targets = 175%). Throw in some DDR-esque “GOOD!” “GREAT!” and “PERFECT!” for casting Lifebloom closer to its expiration. Add some wonky techno music and boring Kara runs would never be the same.

So if you were delivering orders at Blizzard, what things would YOU want?

Phaelia Dark Legacy Features Boomkin

Dark Legacy Comics #103 is up and features a Moonkin/Boomkin/Oomkin/Doomkin (thanks, Ada). As an aside, I wonder if Balance Druids wouldn’t have an easier time finding groups if they could simply settle on a name for themselves. Personally, I’m partial to Laser Chicken.

Phaelia Phae’s 4 Rules of Arena Play

A few months ago, I discovered that I enjoy PvP. I found healing in Alterac Valley analagous to healing in a raid where 10+ people refuse to use Threat Meter. With the introduction of Arenas, I’ve shifted more and more Talent points into PvP-oriented abilities and have worked hard to build a set of Healing gear with an emphasis on Stamina, Resilience, and Armor (for when I switch to bear). I recently respecced from a Restoration/Balance healing spec to a 3-Tree PvP spec which includes Balance talents for insta-cast root and interruption prevention and Feral Talents for increased armor and ROCKET BEAR:

Rocket Bear

5 Rage 8-25 yd range
Instant 15 sec cooldown
Requires Bear Form, Dire Bear Form
Causes you to charge an enemy, immobilizing and interrupting any spell being cast for 4 sec.

I have no idea how I have played this game for two years without this ability. It is an endless source of amusement to send my large, furry bear behind rocketing toward an unsuspecting … whatever. Or rocketing away from a Warrior or Rogue intent upon my ursine demise.

I’m currently actively playing on two Arena teams, a 2v2 with my husband called The Honeymooners and a 5v5 that we only just joined last night (whose name I’ll refrain from mentioning in case they decide we don’t work out). I’m using our 2v2 team to learn new tactics against different classes and also to learn how to take losses in stride. Because while I exhilirate in the thrill of victory, I have a tendency to throw pens when in the agony of defeat. To counteract this, I’m experimenting with a new form of positive reinforcement. Here are the rules:

  1. Never look at your rating change. It hurts more to feel yourself sliding into decline. It’s okay to look at your rating at the start and the finish of your Arena play.
  2. After each match, regardless of the outcome, take 2-3 minutes to discuss with your partner what went right and what went wrong. Consider alternate strategies that might work better.
  3. Don’t try to “go out on a winning streak.” Winning one final game won’t counteract the 5 losses you suffered trying to win one to make yourself feel better.
  4. After every loss, you must slam half a shot of tequila (with salt and lime). This gives you something to be excited about and helps take the sting away from the loss.

Rule #4 above made Arena play so much more enjoyable yesterday. Obviously, this rule doesn’t go for our 5v5 play as it can sometimes result in the following:

Yesterday we finished up at 1623 on our 2v2 team, which is about 20 points higher than where we started. We had a string of three losses at the end but I was able to convince my husband that Rule #3 was a good one to follow, especially when used in conjunction with Rule #4. Oh, and Rule #4 made it easy to fall asleep last night.

Phaelia Voodooray’s 300 Tribute

Voodooray of the Maelstrom created a video which answers the question I know I asked while watching Frank Miller’s 300 — wouldn’t this movie be better if they replaced all these half naked Spartans with 350-lb birdmen covered in fur and feathers? Voodooray does an amazing job of seemlessly integrating Moonkin models into the film’s trailer, likely having pulled animations from the WoW Model Viewer to achieve such high resolution. A must see, especially for fans of the original film.

Hey, Stormwalker! Great to hear from you! Our little sprout is growing fast, but don’t call him “little” when he’s around or he’s sure to tell you “I a little bit big!” :-)

Stormwalker
I…I…kinda miss you and your Druidic writings of old. Good to see you’re still around, busy with RL. The little sproutling looks a little bigger now! Regards, Stormwalker, of old.

Over two years later and this is still relevant and so very helpful. I hope you are having a blast with your little sprout, who’s probably running all over the place now. =D

Hi, Too bad this blog is no longer maimtained. Thanks for you post though. I wanted to address the issue of lefties. I am on, and use the N52TE. I use a trackball with my right hand and the n52TE with my left, no problems.
