Awesome writing, Currant! I loved it, and yeah, I really felt Phae's pain at the end, too, being resto.

As for the real point of your post, well, you may have fewer actual tools, but druid tanks make fantastic use of them and I wont hesitate to jump into an instance with our guild's awesome druid tank. He kind of sidestepped into tanking, taking a dps role on our initial forays into Naxx, and then stepping beautifully into the tanking job when our warrior went down not once, but twice! And did better at holding the mob and eating the damage than he did!

I myself, DID have one slight step into tankage... what a laugh... We are trying the Four Horsemen for the first time.. .and of course, we have Two paladin tanks for the encounter... Paladins only have AoE taunts, which is why that combo sucks for this fight. I love paladin tanks, dont get me wrong, my own dear hubby is a wonderful one.

Anyway, so our rogue throws out the brilliant idea that the druid (me) go to bear, growl at the other paladin's target to pull it off and away, then when we get a bit of distance, my hubby can take it off me...

My feral gear is in the bank and it's cat gear, but I'm willing to try anyway...

I can say I did my job! ::laughing:: I pulled the guy off Fox and one and 1/8 of a shot later, I was dead! He hit me for a 21k crit, which left me a bout 2k health...

I have just ONE thing to say to tanks....

You can HAVE the danged job! ::laughing::

But you have my respect and appreciation and I DO have your back when you do it. :) but Blizz needs to give Paladins a single target taunt. :)

Agreed, the story was completely awesome, I nearly cried for some reason when I read Phalia coming to the rescue. I don't know much about tanking, i'm resto, but I do know our Celdinna is our go-to girl. She's got 43k HP (sink that in for a moment), and MTed malygos fine. I am not sure if anyone is arguing this, but I don't feel like our class needs more bells and whistles.

Really nice post. It captures a lot of my frustrations as well. While there's no denying that druid tanks are viable (and I'll be writing more on that in a bit), the gear just doesn't feel fun, and with the additions of DK-specific tanking weapons, it feels like bears are the odd man out when it comes to specific gear tailored for them.

It's not critical that this gets fixed, and mechanically it's not necessary, but it would be nice to look at gear and be able to evaluate it based on more than the agility and stamina it has.

Restoration Druids don't really have specialized loot anymore, or at least not a lot of it. Most of the Naxx/Emblem spell power leather has crit, haste or no spirit on it, which favours balance rather than resto.

Better to say that Damage Shields is a rip off of the Paladin's ret aura, more than druid's thorns. Even if it's not, it's hard to be rankled by an ability that is hardly iconic.

Just in regards to saying that Moonkin, Tree-Druids, Holy Pallies have gear itemized specifically for them.
Holy pallies are easy, only 1 plate wearing-spell damage class exists.
Restos - Resto gear suffers from lots of Crit and Haste, which is abundant on most spell casting gear and most leather. Moonkin benefit from this, restos dont really

Mages suffer from having an abundance of spirit on most cloth gear while only Arcane mages benefit at all, Frost and Fire and Frostfire mages gain almost no benefit from spirit.

Bear Tanks seem to be doing pretty good, just based on what my housemate seems to be doing

Truly an epic tale. That was very well written. I love the description of the the HoTs on the tank and the apologetic nature of the healer when someone died in the fight (We all feel like that). ^_^
