Phaelia Turkey Day 2008!

Happy Turkey day, everyone! I’m especially thankful to all of the readers who contributed pictures of their Moonkin. The turnout was greater than I anticipated, especially given how generally healing-oriented Resto4Life is! Thank you! And now, without further ado, here are the 2008 Turkey Day submissions:

Adremma Adremma of Sentinels (US) sends in the first of many examples of the improved quest coding that allows Druids to complete most quests while retaining their shapeshifted form! Personally, when I complete this quest, I’m going to do so in Tree of Life so that it looks like a yeti carrying firewood! Then again, maybe that’s not such a good idea!
AedosAedos of Aggramar (EU) is seen here chilling out with her undead buddy, Frosty, after defeating a Frost Drake in Dragonblight. If Frosty seems a little heftier than normal, it’s because Aedos has been feeding him a diet of Papa Hummel’s Old Fashioned Pet Biscuits. The hope being that a vegetarian diet will prevent Frosty from instead developing a taste for Turkey!
Bellwether Not wanting BRK to have all the pet-related fun, Bellwether of 4 Haelz has managed to acquire her own pet, this one a Ravager. She aspires to even greater heights, though, admitting that what she really wants is a rhino! Just imagine the ground tremors from a Moonkin and a rhino!
Copey Copey of Dunemaul (US) fixes a non-traditional Turkey Day feast by serving himself alongside fresh seafood. Now who’s going to tell the butterball that he’s already golden brown?
Hana Flash of Moonfire author Hana of Skywall (US) takes to the sky in Harry’s Bomber, no doubt on a mission to exact revenge on those who mocked her stubby wings in grade school!
Hibiscus John Marikel
Hibiscus of Terokkar (US), soon-to-be mother of two baby Boomkin A mysterious contributor, John, sends this snapshot of his Boomkin traveling overland. Poor Mistsaber! Marikel of Scarlet Crusade (US) learns the hard way that
Moonkin can’t fly.

NurowynEnjoying her new-found firepower, Nurowyn of Kilrogg (US) struts her stuff out in the Grizzly Hills. The two native Imperial Eagles seem less than impressed by her lack of avian dignity.
PhaeliaHere my Warlock guildmate Miaja has lured me into a dangerous trap, intending to enjoy a delectable Turkey Day dinner at my expense! Who can really blame her, though? After all, in Moonkin Form, I’m bigger than Hansel and Gretel put together!
Riverwish1Despite the extreme cold of Northrend causing her feathers stick together, Riverwish looks poised to throw a Starfire (or maybe a snowball) at yet one more quest mob. Fortunately, she persevered through the wind and snow to level 80 and is now happily back in Tree of Life, snuggling by the fire in Dalaran inn (though hopefully not too close).
Teranin1 Teranin2 Teranin3
Set for 600 Degrees and
Roast for 9 hours
POOR TERANIN!
Teranin of Skywall (US)
is a Master of the Drumsticks!
Charging into battle aboard
an engineered tank, Teranin
gives whole new meaning to
the term “Panzerkin”!

Thorn Glyph of Thorns author Thorn sets out on a Paul Revere-esque ride across the frozen tundras of Northrend, likely yelling “THE PILGRIMS ARE COMING!” and fleeing certain demise.
RoselineA common theme this year appears to be a celebration of the ability to ride all manner of mounts — and, in some cases, quest mobs. Here Tauren Druid Roseline of Dreadmaul (US) is seen galloping across Dragonblight astride a Blood Elf Paladin’s mount of all things!
WiseFox1 WiseFox2 Muffinator
Wise Fox submits this picture of his cunning method of avoiding becoming a turkey dinner! After this, Wise Fox will NEVER AGAIN lose his raid slot to a Mage! From this gory shot of cannibalism, I think Muffinator thought this
was a Halloween contest!

In a recent Tree-mail, Treehuggur of Suramar (US) asks:

Has anyone compiled a list of green and blue level 80 gear for Resto Druids to start raiding 10s and 25s?

Okay, well there ARE capes in some of these lists. But I take no responsibility if you choose to wear them! baby_polar_bear Dear Blizzard,

Thank you for the bear. He perfectly matches my hair. Though I promise not to get rid of him as soon as I change my hair color (again).

XOXO,

Currant A Plethora of Claws

So it appears that kitties will be getting an AoE ability:

Yeah, if I can offer a suggestion, please don’t disregard a player’s argument just because their class is good in aspects of the game you care about that the OP may not. :)

We think we are going to remove the cooldown of Fan of Knives altogether. There are just too many PvE situations where rogues feel at a disadvantage without a reliable ranged attack. The example that came up recently is Meathook in CoT:Stratholme and having the spawning zombies causing pushback on your healers. Rogues can FoK once and then have to run over to help the healer.

And in case it gets asked, Feral druids we haven’t forgotten about your AE either.

We’ll try and announce something soon.

I CAN HAZ ADAMANTIUM?Or is that really what that comment means?  Not forgetting about it doesn’t actually mean they’re going to give it to us, just that they’re thinking about it.

What do you think about that?  How would that work?  Would we Purr the enemy to death, rattling the integrity of their skeletal structure into nothing but a fine powder?  Maybe the Angry-Kitty Death Shriek where we make that creepy baby sound cats make when they’re hurt, tearing the tympanum from the eardrums of our foes with an awful wail?  Or could it be the Spastic LoLCat Scritch-Scratch, blinking from alien girl to alien girl like James T. Kirk on Red Bull?

Who knows?

Phaelia Turkey Day! Send Me Your Boomkin!

Published on November 18, 2008 by Phaelia

turkey With the release of Wrath of the Lich King and the new level cap, many Trees have found themselves donning a suit of feathers and Moonfire-spamming their way to level 80. Coincidentally, the U.S. celebrates its annual Thanksgiving next Thursday, November 27 or — as many affectionately term it — "Turkey Day." In celebration of this holiday, I’d like to encourage visitors to send me screenshots of their feathered selves … or some variation of, be it in Northrend or elsewhere! The submission requirements are similar to those for this year’s earlier Arbor Day celebration:

Submission Requirements

To participate in this challenge, you must send me a screenshot of your Druid. Pictures should be taken while in Moonkin Form and should meet the following criteria:

  • Nothing should obstruct the full and glorious view of your character you’ve (no inventory screens or character sheets; we just want to see your Boomkin).
  • Include a description of your surroundings or really any sort of flavor text you like.
  • Feel free to include your favorite non-combat pet in the picture, particularly if you feel it complements your roleplay backstory.
  • Be creative with your backdrops, and feel free to combine entries with your friends.

I’ll be compiling all the appropriate entries into a gallery of images for the site and showcasing my favorites. Entries should be in TGA or JPG format and can be sent to me at . To give me time to cook Thanksgiving dinner and visit with family, entries must be submitted no later than Wednesday, November 26th (but the earlier the better)!

Living Seed, Replenish, and Gift of the Earthmother (13)

Werebeef
I don’t think viewing living seed as a % of total healing is really the best way to look at it. It’s great for helping a player that is at very low health get back up to very high health and do so quickly. You don’t look at nature’s swiftness as a percentage of overall healing. I don’t think it makes that much sense here either. It’s also a talent that is better when the content is hard, when you have less overhealing. There’s also something...

Kalfurion
Hi Phae, long time no talk. I want to point out that I’m 0/0/71 and I love it. I don’t really find the talents in the balance tree to be that useful for my needs. I’m in a raiding guild as I’m sure you know and the three talents you spoke about suit my needs so well. My rogues, DK’s and our feral druid love me when I keep a rejuv on them for replenish. I’ve joined pugs and people look at my spec and make silly jokes and I don’t know why,...

Kiryn
I really like Replenish, personally. I find myself with far more mana regen than I need in most boss fights, so mana conservation isn’t much of an issue for me. I don’t even know why I carry mana potions if I never use them, and I’m far more likely to be innervating the priests than myself. I often treat rejuv-swiftmend as a near-instant 8k heal on a 15 second cooldown. It isn’t cheap, but it can bring someone back from the brink of death in a little over a second...

Perrin
Phae, One thing that needs to be pointed out clearly to everyone is the misconception about “After spell haste” and the tooltip for GotEM. GotEM removes 0.3 seconds from your GCD. It doesn’t matter if its applied after or before spell haste, because its a factor of the 1.5 BASE GCD. Spell Haste is also a factor of the 1.5 BASE GCD. Therefore they don’t affect each other. The tooltip says 20%, but unlike the usual use of % based talents, the reduction is additive...

Phaelia
@Flynx: Thanks for the link - I’ve added it above to help flesh out the section about GotEM and spell haste! And I’m never sure whether information like this would be better suited to the Healing role forum or the Druid forum. >.< @Pike: I’m glad to hear that you’re still leveling your Druid. I imagine there is a lot of overlap between Hunter fans and Druid fans! (After all, as a Druid, you’re your own pet!) @Pfooti: Thank you! I’m glad you found it...
Guest Post: Leveraging Shadowmeld (22)

Riverwish
As far as i’m aware they changed it so that when you meld in a raid instance you don’t leave combat so you can’t drink/eat or reset pot cooldowns in a raid bossfight, this is why you have to be quite lucky at escaping combat in a raid situation. I did manage to escape for Patchwerk numerous times but other bosses are trickier, I think it depends really on who your fighting and what room you’re in :) All these things can be done in 5 mans though. Riverwishs...

Vreenash
Thanks for posting this up Phae :) Keep the ideas flowing guys. It’s good to hear the different ideas and situations you’ve all been using shadowmeld in. Here’s another one for you: While leveling my way to 78 (still with the ground mount in northrend), there were quests that required killing a normal mob boss. They were usually in the centre of a town, camp or cave. Instead of killing all the mobs on the way to boss, just mount up and run directly to him....

Bearess
One note about SM that should be brought up. Yes it will bring you out of the fight in a lot of cases, but some bosses can still find you. AOE attacks will bring you out of a SM. So watch that. I learned that the hard way when Instructor Razuvious broke loose, and I skittered off a corner and SM. His next “victim” was too close to me when he let out his “Distrupting Shout” and I became next on his list. Figured I’d drop a line since it is a weakness to SM...

Arcaedus
Great info! I’ve often used SM to get out of combat when soloing but have put it to limited use in the instance/raid environment. @Riverwish: I’m not sure that you have to be the last player alive/targetable. I’ve had both successful and unsuccessful attempts with SM hiding on a wipe. My main example is on Patchwork. When multiple tanks go down and its a sure wipe, you are able to run behind one of the pillars and meld. As long as no one drags Patchy to you he should...
2008: A Retrospective (9)

Melchoir
Ever since I came back 1/2 year ago from a forced 2-year hiatus from WoW, I’ve been frequenting your blog. You’ve provided us with a wealth of great information and analysis. Thanks to you, my Grid actually gives me useful information beyond how much healing I need to pour into the box. Also, your comments on the Belkin Nostromo N52 TE got me interested enough to try one out for myself. So far, it has improved my healing response time and even saved my groups from a few...
