Druid-Themed Achievements

August 6, 2008
Categories: Humor

plaque I’m really excited about the recently-announced Achievements System. For those of you not familiar with it, it’s a new system coming in Wrath of the Lich King cataloguing your character’s accomplishments. As far as we know, Achievements are purely vanity-based, affording you no combat benefits (I’ve seen it rumored that you may be able to use them to purchase non-combat benefits like vanity pets, though). It is, however, another path of character progression for new and old characters alike.

While I’m a fan of many of the Achievements that have thus far been revealed, I’m disappointed by the lack of class-specific achievements. This is an understandable decision since class-specific items like this would only appeal to a smaller percentage of the playerbase. But if I were making my own list of Achievements, here are a few potentially Druid-specific ones I’d create:

Achievement Name Description
Panzer-bear Successfully execute a Rawr-Bomb maneuver.
Panzer-bear Commando Successfully execute 10 Rawr-Bomb maneuvers.
Warsong Flag Carrier Successfully carry and capture a flag in Warsong Gulch.
Warsong MVP Run all three successful flag captures in a Warsong Gulch.
Glub, Glub, Glub Acquire Aquatic Form.
Moonglade Master Reach Exalted reputation with the Cenarion Circle faction.
Earth’s Warden Reach Exalted reputation with the Cenarion Expedition faction.
Cenarion Aviator Acquire a [Cenarion War Hippogryph].
Colonel’s Secret Recipe Moonfire spam a member of the opposing faction to death.
BULL@#$^! Horde-only: Successfully execute a Warstomp + Cyclone combo in a rated Arena match.
QQ MOAR Alliance-only: Drink to full using Star’s Tears and Shadowmeld in a rated Arena match.
Hello, Kitty! Get the jump on a Rogue in a rated Arena match.
Mine! Stealth-capture both mines in Alterac Valley.
Arena Pole Dancer Win a rated Arena match without taking any damage.
Cenarion Expedition (5/10/25) Complete a 5/10/25 man instance with a group of all Druids.
Credits Roll: Feral Outdamage a Rogue on a raid boss where neither of you die.
Credits Roll: Balance Outdamage a Mage on a raid boss where neither of you die.
Death’s Angel Use a Nature’s Swiftness + Healing Touch when your target is under 3% health.
Frequent Flyer Fly 10,000 miles in Flight Form or Swift Flight Form.
Goldilocks’ Revenge Cast Hibernate on another Druid in Battlegrounds or a rated Arena match.
Resto4Life Spend more than 90% of your total playtime with the majority of your talent points in Restoration.

Just for fun, I created some "Failures", too!

Failure Name Description
Inconceivable! Lose a 1500 Rated Arena match with an Arms Warrior, Rogue, or Warlock partner (while specced Restoration, of course).
TREE IS NOT 4 FITE Be Banished in Tree of Life form by a Warlock in a rated Arena match.
Splat Cat Fall to your death while in Cat Form.
@#$%!!! Innervate a non-mana user during a raid encounter (legacy achievement; no longer possible).
Davy Jones’ Locker Die to fatigue while in Aquatic Form.
Bird Brain Fall to your death in the Outlands after level 68.
DIAF Die from fire damage while in Tree of Life form.
LOLWUT? Level two or more Druids to level 70 on the same faction and account.
Resto4Life Spend more than 90% of your total playtime with the majority of your talent points in Restoration.

These are a few ideas that I had, but please feel free to use the comments to suggest your own!

    I’ve totally got Inconceivable down.

i’d just like to point out that falling to your death after 68 is not as hard as it sounds if you respec resto and find that your flight-form hotkey turns you into a tree, shortly before hitting the ground by the aldor bank

Do fire mages do extra damage to trees (Smolder effect?)

    If not they should…

Ohhh I am posting this on a Tree forums… no Lifebloom for me this week.

I must confess, I glossed over the intro paragraphs and just started reading the list and getting excited about the new Druid achievements, then realized they were IDEAS for achievements, and came back down to earth! lol

Great ideas! Hopefully Blizz will take notice.

Love your posts - keep ‘em coming!

A couple of those are actually in beta. Specifically, WSG flag running, having both CC and CE exalted, and the hippogryph I know I’ve seen in the list.

Master Garden Bloomer: Keep 3 stacks of Lifebloom at 100% up-time for all boss fights in a raid.

Master Bloomer with a Garden next to the Blizzard Servers: Keep 4 stacks of Lifebloom up…

Dancing Roots: Heal an entire boss fight without remaining stationary for more than 1 second.

Knot Head: Grind a faction from start to Exalted while completely within Resto Spec.

LOL! I did the bird brain last night. I took the FP out to Nagrand to do the fire ball quest, jumped off the platform, and hit tree form. Splat.
Look at it this way. At least I saved some mana healing myself back up and the repair guy is close by, even in tree form.

Lol i feel so bad now… i’ve had LOLWUT for awhile now. Both scryer druids, one resto, one feral. Same account…
    *cheer*

  • Gravatar Oni Said:

    Funny list. :D

I’ve done bird brain several times though. For example doing the races down at Netherwing, during one of the races I got hit by the guy I was chasing just as we passed one of the guards, which put me in combat. :(

One of the weirder was when I left Shatt flying north east towards Throne of Kil’jaeden, then left my computer for a moment, only to come back and find I had died, from falling damage, in the mountains between Terokkar Forest and Hellfire Peninsula. I have no idea what happened there… :|

Oh, and I have a few failed attempts at Rawr Bombing on my list as well. I’m bad at predicting where I’m going to land or how fast mobs move around. :(

    @Kal: Sadly, so do I. ^_^

@Lee: Rofl … I did that myself the other day!

@Gnomeaggedon: … you’ll have to pay for that comment in stacks of biscuits.

@Beaster: LOL, well I’m glad you liked them enough to wish them real anyway. :-)

@Wynn: Oooooo!! I love that. It could be called “Prickly Pear.”

@Kaera: Oh, that’s great to know! I may have to splurge on a hippogryph for its Cenarion background, despite having the obviously superior Epic Flight Form.

@Fenlar: Ty! And don’t forget in the expansion you’ll be able to be a Panzer-Kitteh, too!

@Barona: I love all of those, particularly the Garden ones.

@Graylo: Haha, well I’m glad you don’t have trouble outdamaging Mages. :-D The Resto equivalent should be outhealing a Shaman on trash in TK. ^_^

@TKC: Weren’t you a little disappointed that you turned back into an Elf when you hit the ground? The tree death animations are so awesome.

    @Archmera: Don’t feel bad; I’m leveling a Feral, too!

@Oni: There’s a bug with terrain sometimes where if you run into the side of a mountain, it treats it like fall damage. I’ve died to that a couple of times myself.

Umm the whole death’s Angel thing doesn’t excite me…I can see it now me mashing buttons my nestromo thinking WTH isn’t Phae healing me! OMG 3% I AM GOING TO DIE!!!! then in a final act of desperation i hit Frenzied regen (which does me no good) and spill my beer all over my keyboard in anger only to have you heal me at 1%…Not a good plan!!!!

  • Gravatar cisko Said:

@Barona: I like those! I’m sure I’ve done the Dancing Roots achievement healing the Nethermancer Sepethrea fight on Heroic.

    A few of my suggestions:

Katrina’s Wrath: Hit ten or more PvP opponents with a single Hurricane. (I love doing this in huge flag or bridge battles in AV.)

Aerial Combat Specialist: Kill a flying opponent from midair, after shifting out of Flight Form — and live to tell the tale. (I’ve not done this yet, but not for lack of trying. Halaa of course is the perfect location for this.)

Battlground Hybrid Master: Finish separate battlegrounds as leader in Damage and Healing. (Shamans will have a good run at this too. Pallies and Priests might find it tough.)

Battleground Hybrid Champion: Finish a single battleground as leader in both Damage and Healing. (Takes a pretty bad BG group, but I’ve done this in AB.)

Master Shapeshifter: Complete a successful heroic boss fight with at least 10% of time spent (active - no sitting around) in each of three different forms.

Acolyte of the Raven Lord: Summon Anzu 10 (25? 50?) times in Heroic Sethekk Halls.

Hmm, I know a Moonkin who can out damage about any Mage or Warlock in a non AoE fight.

  • Gravatar tkc Said:

“Weren’t you a little disappointed that you turned back into an Elf when you hit the ground?”

The Nagrand FP platform wasn’t high enough to kill me. The fall took about 75% of my health away. I can only imagine how funny it looked to anyone who saw it. “WTF? Is that a tree falling out of the sky?”

Hi Phae, I’m a new poster to your page but I love your posts - I check them every day, keep it up! My main is a holy paladin but I rolled a druid for the awesome utility of the class… and to tank. After season 3 however, I saw the light (or maybe just the green glow of my hands) and decided to do resto PvP.

    My contributions to your list:

VanDamme - Be placed into combat with two rogues in a rated 2v2 arena match and exit combat with 90% total health or greater. (Must be kindney shot a minimum of twice)

Barkwin? - Win a rated 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 arena match in which you deliver all of the killing blows as a resto druid. (Must be at least x/x/31)

Growth of the Forest - Win a rated 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 arena match in which you use only instant casts. (Excludes feral druids, natures swiftness does not cancel the ability to achieve this.)

  • Gravatar Ilaniel Said:
    August 8th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

@Cisko: I too have made the Dancing Roots achievement on Nethermancer Sepethrea on heroic. That fight still makes me sweat!

    These achievements are great! :D

One of our druids would get the “@#$%!!!” Achievement - he innervated a rogue during a BWL fight back in the day. It’s a long-running joke in our guild. I have to show him this and tell him it’s real. :)

  • Gravatar Karla Said:
    August 8th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

Oh these are all totally awesome. I have a druid (normally specced feral, but I’ve been known to go resto and attempt to heal some bgs) so I’d have to try them myself.

I should try and come up with a list for shadow priests.

    I’m totally death’s angel.
I have a pally friend that i run around with who tanks for me all the time. There’s a game i play when I’m bored healing. It’s called “Let’s see how far down in HP we can get the tank!” ^.-

He has the running record with 29/20k(ish)hp.

I think he /may/ have started drinking to tank for me. <3

    Why is “LOLWUT?” a ‘Failure’?
If anything it should be a super-achievement.. :P

  • Gravatar Padwar Said:

They also have a statistics page with achievements like number of times you have jumped and number of times summoned by a warlock. I’d like to see some druid-specific counters for number of times you shapeshift into each different form: bear, cat, tree, moonkin, travel, aquatic, flight.

  • Gravatar Meugly Said:

    How about:

Favored of Moonglade: respec at least 100 times.

I *so* had this one ages ago!

  • Gravatar Phaelia Said:
    August 14th, 2008 at 4:16 pm

@Abagoo: I thought you were going Resto in the expansion anyway. ^_^

@Cisko: Oh, I really like the PvP-oriented Hurricane achievement. I should try that, even as a Resto it would be pretty fun! The hybrid challenges also sound pretty fun!

@Justyna: Wow. ^_^ I know Boomkin do great damage … but they need a certain gear level to do so. Outdamaging a Mage could be the “milestone” that represents they’ve reached that point. :-)

@Halfathaia: Thanks for reading and for commenting!! It’s always great to hear from new people! And O.o at your VanDamme suggestion. That sounds quite difficult! Beating a 2v2 against two 1800+ rated Rogues was definitely the highlight of my very short-lived Arena career. ;-D I’m guessing you must Arena a fair bit yourself since so many of your suggestions are PvP-oriented?

@Ilaniel: Yeah, I’m loving the ones that readers have submitted! Very creative. :-)

@Honora: After I returned to the game from a 3-month break, I had a real issue with accidentally Innervating my husband’s Warrior. I finally had to make a macro that ONLY Innervated myself unless I was holding down CTRL, so I’m quite familiar with @#$%!!!

@Karla: You definitely should. Things like, “Restore 4000 mana to a Resto Druid over the course of a fight … ”

@Gidget: You know in EverQuest 1, when someone would take enough damage, they would fall unconscious and their lifebar would turn purple. Clerics used to threaten to let Warriors join the “purple club.” ;-D

@Vargoth: Hahaha … good point! I’m working on that “achievement” myself!

@Padwar: Oh hell yes. I totally need a jump count!

@Meugly: Ouch … I imagine you’re looking forward to the upcoming “alternate talent spec”!

Flyv
Hey, thanks for the nice plug for my blog!
Direct Heals in Wrath (21)

Kelerain
Do you have a source on the coefficients thing? I can’t find a good source after some digging. Reading the official talents, it appears empowered rejuvenation is the same style of bonus, but did not get doubled. I’m not sure I see the logic in it relating to spell power. 40% of healing vs 40% of spell power should be the same relative increase no matter the coefficient being multiplied by. 40% spell power before hand is the same as 40% after the coefficient. Same for the...

Kelerain
Regarding the coefficient, I think the glyph would be complete garbage at half the coefficient. I can see no role for it to play there. Assuming a full coefficient, It seems to get somewhat poor HPM, but not unreasonably poor (in the range of a current HT or one-off regrowth). Nourish is much better in this department. It does seem, however, to get good enough HPS to make this a reasonable ‘tradeoff’, getting HPS numbers in the chain-regrowth-with-glyph range. If you had...

Phaelia
@Kelerain: The 1.4 change was made because of spell power changes. It was necessary to increase its bonus from 1.2 to 1.4 so that the overall bonus was unchanged. However, since we’re working with +Healing rather than spell power, the 1.2 is actually still the relevant statistic. You aren’t the first person to ask about that, though, so maybe I should have explained it in the article itself. Thanks for following up!

Kelerain
You really got me interested in this one. I’ve been playing with the HT Glyph analysis, and I may have uncovered an error. From above (and your spreadsheet): “CoefficientHealing Touch = Base Coefficient * Gift of Nature * Empowered Touch * Master Shapeshifter = 1.0 * 1.1 * 1.2 * 1.04 = 1.3728″ Empowered touch is now a 40% increase, instead of a 20% increase, giving: 1.0 * 1.1 * 1.4 * 1.04 = 1.6016 This is substantially better, and may influence your analysis. Ht...

Phaelia
@Kelearin: I do see what you mean about the potential for HT. It’s still not clear, though, if its casting time reduction will function the same way that Naturalist does (i.e., it won’t get a smaller +Healing coefficient, despite a faster cast time). It seems like a 1.5 second spell with a 100% coefficient would just be insanely OP. The fact that healing is reduced by 50% makes me suspect that they also reduce the coefficient, but we won’t know until those Glyphs are...
Bear Form Armor and Downranking Woes (21)

Phaelia
@Nyxtaru: Sadly, I didn’t realize Rank 1 roots were so effective until just recently. Poo. @Tone: To be honest, the loss of green armor is a bit disappointing for me, too. With Improved Tree of Life giving an armor bonus, I was looking forward to finding some myself. Although I guess there wouldn’t really have been any with healy stats. ^_^ Definitely going to try to shy away from cloth, tho! Great point about being able to role-shift during combat. @Tildir: That would be...

Phaelia
@Nielari: Glad you enjoyed it as much as I do! @Zackoria: LOL @Tiagantar: GRAMMAR IS FOR THE WEAK (in Battlegrounds). @Kestrel: Ooo that would be some fun. :-D
Community Spotlight (7)

Phaelia
@Adremma: Oh, I’m sorry about the confusion. >.< Thanks for the correction! @Kalfurion: That store looks a lot like the Anthropologie stores we have in the States. I probably couldn’t afford anything there, either! :-D @Eglador: Thanks. Corrected! :-) @Graylo: Oh, my mistake!! I’ve adjusted the description to be more clear.
Wrath Recap (21)

Phaelia
@Tone: I agree, and I really worry about the viability of a “Cat Druid.” Rogues really struggle to justify their raid spots these days due to the superiority of ranged damage. How can a Druid compete if, as they’ve indicated, they still do less damage than a Rogue even when specialized?
