How to: Be a Jerkface on Warsong Holiday Weekend

I ran a few Warsong Gulch matches with some guildmates this weekend. During one match, the Horde group we fought decided the best way to win would be to turtle on top of their graveyard. What this means is that every time we’d kill a group of Horde, they’d respawn in about 15 seconds to harry us again, eventually forcing us to retreat and nurse our wounds. It got so shameless that at one point, they gathered around a romantic picnic basket, snuggling and nuzzling our flag in a most inappropriate and personally offensive manner.
After 45 minutes of unsuccessful and frustrating skirmishing in midfield, we decided to take all 10 players — including Mr. Phae carrying the Horde flag — and march over to them. I won’t tell you where that flag ended up, but it wasn’t pleasant for a certain Horde Warrior who seemed determined to turn me into so much orange-and-black-spotted goo (the two deaths I have listed were probably his kills). The overall frustration of playing against a turtle team made our eventual victory so much sweeter; our new 10-man offensive strategy took us to 3-1 caps.
The moral of the story? Please don’t turtle on top of the graveyard. Also, wear thick, flag-pole-proof pants.

Epic Dolls cohosts Leala and Rae chat Resto4Life author Phaelia up about all things Druid in an 84-minute podcast revolving around the Balance, Feral, and Restoration specs.
What’s also particularly “jerkface-ish” is putting on all your srsbznss tanking gear and running the flag. See how many dudes it takes to kill you. Or rather, not kill you.
Yikes! I hate WSG for this very reason. No one seems to ever want to finish the fight (unless it is the daily). WSG is the new AV….lol
I wonder if Blizzard will put some sort of resource type schema in place for WSG? Though given that there are 3 other BGs that have “time limits”, I doubt it.
@Phae: I just read your old “why the horde always wins”, post. Have things changed? I didn’t play BGs until the past couple of months, even though I’ve played WoW for 2 years.
I’m horde, but in my battlegroup we win AV 80% of the time (typically in 10-15 minutes). Which, of course, makes zero sense as the Alliance have it so easy in AV. We do, however, lose Eye 90-95% of the time, and AB probably 70% of the time. And, WSG sucks so I don’t count it….lol If a queue is longer than 5-6 minutes, I always assume the BG servers must have crashed.
Have you seen a change in BG behavior now almost 1 year after that old post?
BTW! That first try when we all went in, I was carrying the flag….And I only remember this because of the very quick and horrific way i died. Due to my fatigue from carrying thats stupid flag so damn long!!!! But we won thats all that matters. And I know how you feel about people wanting to kill you. I had a Blood elf pally decide that she hated me so bad she used her LoH cooldown to try to kill me…Needlless to say I PWNED ALL OVER HER FACE!
@Runycat: I’ve always wanted Mr. Phae to respec prot for this very purpose. Maybe next WSG holiday!
@NotAnIssue: I think the major thing that has changed is that Alterac Valley isn’t the guaranteed win for Alliance that it used to be. I’d say, premades aside, that it’s pretty 50/50 lately. We’ve lately taken to playing defense and wreaking havoc on the Hordies who try to jet past all the graveyards to zerg the Alliance Base. Good times.
Arathi is still pretty much a guaranteed loss, it seems like Horde wins more than they lose in Eye of the Storm, and Warsong over the weekend was about 60/40 Horde/Alliance, but granted it was a pretty small sample. So I think the Horde still has an advantage (superior BG racials and stupidly favorable geography in Arathi Basin), but that the gap has closed a little. Or maybe I’m just that much better/making that much of a difference. /flex LOL
@Abagoo: You did … what now? Gross, Abby! At least she has cleanse.
273 Bonus Honor from WSG??
@Stupid Mage: Is that a lot? A little? How do you even get bonus honor in WSG? Can you tell I don’t go to WSG much?
It’s funny my two 70s are in two different battlegroups, and the typical wins/losses are completely different in the two. One’s an older battlegroup and one younger, maybe that makes a difference. The older one wins AV a lot, the other is 50/50. one loses AB all the time, the other wins AB all the time. weird.
One really bad WSG I was in over the weekend was where the other team had 2 priests, a pally and some resto shaman/druids. It was not so bad because our team was actually working together, but it took about an hour and they eventually won, they had more healing than we had dps. Killing healers is hard when 2 other healers are healing the healer! And you have few mages to sheep em all.
I played a WSG once that was the same idea but I think it was closer to 2 hours (I actually broke 1 million healing, lol)…they a lock holding the flag, and if I remember right he broke 500k healing (this was about half a year ago so it’s a bit foggy). I’m soooo happy they at least introduced the fatigue thing with flag carriers.
@Yunk: I hate, hate, hate games where your side only has 1-2 healers. I swear Hordies look at the scoreboard and check out who has the highest healing and then make macros to target them!
@Kalaghan: Wow @ the Warlock. The flag-carrying fatigue was probably a good change, even if it is more frustrating for healers.
