Phae’s e-Fish-ent Macro

May 15, 2008
Categories: Lunar Guidance, Macros

#showtooltip
/equip [nomod,noworn:Fishing Pole] Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole
/cast [nomod:ctrl,worn:Fishing Pole] Fishing
/use [mod:ctrl, worn:Fishing Pole] Sharpened Fish Hook
/use [mod:ctrl,worn:Fishing Pole] 16

Teach a Druid to fish and she'll raid for a lifetime! The above macro will:

  • Equip [Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole] if it isn't already equipped
  • Try to fish if you have your fishing pole equipped and you aren't pressing down CTRL
  • Apply a [Sharpened Fish Hook] to your fishing pole if you have one equipped and hold down CTRL

I created this macro tonight and thought I would share. Does anyone else have a favorite fishing (or other tradeskill) macro? Edit: Gweedo does!

ooh funky :) I should try that out since I’m pondering lvling my fishing some more…. so close to 200! ;)

    Nice one. But you didn’t described what’s “/use [mod:ctrl,worn:Fishing Pole] 16″ for …

    Thank you!

I changed it a bit though

    #showtooltip
/equip [nomod, noworn:Fishing Pole] Arcanite Fishing Pole
    /equip [mod:shift, worn:Fishing Pole] Swarming Sting-Staff of the Tiger
    /cast [nomod,worn:Fishing Pole] Fishing
    /use [mod:ctrl] Sharpened Fish Hook
    /use [mod:ctrl] 16

removed the “worn” parts on the bait, to get my weapon in there too :) also had to change the nomod:ctrl to just nomod because I wanted shift for weapon.

andre, That’s for using the bait on the main hand weapon, aka. the Fishing Pole.

I wish you had posted this a week ago! I was going around and around trying to figure out a good way to do exactly that.

Then the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat and Spun Truesilver Fishing Line dropped from the fishing daily quest. With my new fishing options, I finally just decided to download a fishing add-on.

I’m sure that you have probably seen this before, but if not it may be interesting. While it’s not a macro for fishing, it is fishing fun. :)

@Softi: Well good luck! I hope this helps you out a bit. :-)

@Andre: Oh, sorry. The last two lines are to first activate your lures and then to apply them to your weapon (in this case, your fishing pole). Without the second line, you would end up with the lures on your mouse cursor and not on your pole!

@Flawless: Valenna changed his macro like that, too. I have my regular weapon mapped (for the purpose of an Innervate swap) and only use one modifier key, though. Nice change, though. :-)

@Dinaer: Oh, sorry! I wish I’d posted it sooner, too, if it makes any difference. Grats on your Daily acquisitions! I still want that hat!

@Verile: I have seen that before! It’s pretty cool if a little awkward to move your cursor onto the bobber. Still, a great idea!

The Addon Fishing Buddy essentially does the same thing. It can be set up to equip your fishing gear (with Outfitter) as well as double-right clicking to fish. If you need a lure, it will automatically apply it to your fishing pole as well.

I haven’t been fishing with my druid for a while but last time I tried, it was possible to fish while in ToL form. The funny part is there’s no fishing rod, you just see the bobber, magically floating.. :)

I have a similar macro, but right click equips my weapon for me when I’m done. Also you don’t need to fully spell out the pole or weapon, just enough to make it unique in your bags. Plus I use alt for use the hooks because I’m a keyboard user and ctrl-1 is for my pet commands.

    #showtooltip
    /equip [nomod,noworn:Fishing Pole]Seth’s
    /cast [nomod:alt,worn:Fishing Pole]Fishing
    /use [mod:alt,worn:Fishing Pole]Sharpened Fish Hook
    /use [mod:alt,worn:Fishing Pole]16
    /equip [button:2, worn:Fishing Pole] Jin’rohk

@Sciencegeek: I use the Fishing Buddy addon, too, and it’s awesome for double right click casting and switching to auto-loot when you have a Fishing Pole equipped, but I wanted to see how much I could wrap up into a single macro. Any addon you can replace with a simple macro should result in the tiniest performance increase. :-)

@Ermengol: I’ve heard that it’s no longer possible to fish in Tree Form. =(

@Katho: Good to know about not having to spell the item out.

Hey, thanks for the nice plug for my blog!
Direct Heals in Wrath (21)

Kelerain
Do you have a source on the coefficients thing? I can’t find a good source after some digging. Reading the official talents, it appears empowered rejuvenation is the same style of bonus, but did not get doubled. I’m not sure I see the logic in it relating to spell power. 40% of healing vs 40% of spell power should be the same relative increase no matter the coefficient being multiplied by. 40% spell power before hand is the same as 40% after the coefficient. Same for the...

Kelerain
Regarding the coefficient, I think the glyph would be complete garbage at half the coefficient. I can see no role for it to play there. Assuming a full coefficient, It seems to get somewhat poor HPM, but not unreasonably poor (in the range of a current HT or one-off regrowth). Nourish is much better in this department. It does seem, however, to get good enough HPS to make this a reasonable ‘tradeoff’, getting HPS numbers in the chain-regrowth-with-glyph range. If you had...

Phaelia
@Kelerain: The 1.4 change was made because of spell power changes. It was necessary to increase its bonus from 1.2 to 1.4 so that the overall bonus was unchanged. However, since we’re working with +Healing rather than spell power, the 1.2 is actually still the relevant statistic. You aren’t the first person to ask about that, though, so maybe I should have explained it in the article itself. Thanks for following up!

Kelerain
You really got me interested in this one. I’ve been playing with the HT Glyph analysis, and I may have uncovered an error. From above (and your spreadsheet): “CoefficientHealing Touch = Base Coefficient * Gift of Nature * Empowered Touch * Master Shapeshifter = 1.0 * 1.1 * 1.2 * 1.04 = 1.3728″ Empowered touch is now a 40% increase, instead of a 20% increase, giving: 1.0 * 1.1 * 1.4 * 1.04 = 1.6016 This is substantially better, and may influence your analysis. Ht...

Phaelia
@Kelearin: I do see what you mean about the potential for HT. It’s still not clear, though, if its casting time reduction will function the same way that Naturalist does (i.e., it won’t get a smaller +Healing coefficient, despite a faster cast time). It seems like a 1.5 second spell with a 100% coefficient would just be insanely OP. The fact that healing is reduced by 50% makes me suspect that they also reduce the coefficient, but we won’t know until those Glyphs are...

@Nyxtaru: Sadly, I didn’t realize Rank 1 roots were so effective until just recently. Poo. @Tone: To be honest, the loss of green armor is a bit disappointing for me, too. With Improved Tree of Life giving an armor bonus, I was looking forward to finding some myself. Although I guess there wouldn’t really have been any with healy stats. ^_^ Definitely going to try to shy away from cloth, tho! Great point about being able to role-shift during combat. @Tildir: That would be...

@Adremma: Oh, I’m sorry about the confusion. >.< Thanks for the correction! @Kalfurion: That store looks a lot like the Anthropologie stores we have in the States. I probably couldn’t afford anything there, either! :-D @Eglador: Thanks. Corrected! :-) @Graylo: Oh, my mistake!! I’ve adjusted the description to be more clear.
Wrath Recap (21)

Phaelia
@Tone: I agree, and I really worry about the viability of a “Cat Druid.” Rogues really struggle to justify their raid spots these days due to the superiority of ranged damage. How can a Druid compete if, as they’ve indicated, they still do less damage than a Rogue even when specialized?
