Andrige’s Tree of Life Wallpaper

March 14, 2008
Categories: Artwork, Community

Courtesy of Andrige, creator of the beautiful Druid form skins highlighted earlier this week, I have a gorgeous new desktop wallpaper to share with you! This wallpaper features the Tree of Life surrounded by her perennial peers, the Ancients of War and Lore. It’s my desktop wallpaper at home and at work (the two can so rarely agree), and I know you’ll love it as much as I do!

Tree of Life
by Andrige

I was actually fortunate enough to be asked for an idea for this new wallpaper. Here’s what I described:

What about a Tree of Life (in the gorgeous skin you created) standing in the middle of a semi-circle of the Ancients (the big trees that wander around Darnassus and Cenarion Expedition). So it would be like the Tree of Life had been accepted among her peers, despite her diminutive size. And maybe they’d have come to her for advice on these "short-lived humans" or something like that. Surely we’d have a useful perspective on something they would want to solicit. =) The background could be a forest like the one in Teldrassil or Ashenvale. Maybe they could be meeting in a clearing or at one of those stone shrines like the "Grove of the Ancients" that’s south of Ashenvale.

I can’t imagine a more beautiful execution! Thank you, Andrige!

That is a beautiful background and I would love to make it my background, but… A more Tauren friendly version would be needed =D

But besides that, it is actually a tremendous background and the quality of work is excellent.

Tree of Life is originally a shared model, but with my pack I can distinguish them, which I think is better too (ToL, cheetah and aquatic shouldn’t be shared to begin with tbh). Probably gonna have to make a Tauren Tree of Life in the near future with my own skin again, of course.

Glad you liked the interpretation, Phaelia :)

This is gorgeous. Guess what - today I got a new wallpaper! :-)

Thanks for creating such a beautiful background, Andrige & thanks for sharing it with us, Phae!

I am making this my desktop now :) It is amazing. I really wish Blizzard would implement his skins/ hire him!!
I am too confused by how to download them… I know its against the term. But I just don’t know. I would hate to do something wrong with the downloading of skins and have to delete the game, redownload/etc..
    Thanks again Phae!! Lovely!!

I think I’m gonna make a ToL for the Tauren skin taken in Aszhara, sadly Taurens don’t have the same grandieur as the Nightelves when it comes to world environment and Druids, maybe adding those earth-giants that roam about in the background for somewhat of an equal appearance? (Ancients are basically only Nightelves so I can’t use that again).

(Well not really Resto4Life related but there were one or two guys wondering about the Tauren skin… *cough*)

That IS a tough one, I think you got the right environment with Ashzara, but as for background characters.. hmm. How about the Firbolgs at Timbermaw Hold? It’s a bit of a contrast from the Nelf Tree. With the Tauren, HE’s the big one imparting wisdom to all his furry disciples.

Furbolgs are actually also more familiar with Nightelves than Taurens.
They were allies a long time ago and protected what was Felwood if I remember correctly, and they even helped out in a war sometime with the Nightelves.

Taurens lives in another part of Kalimdor, so I doubt they have much in common.
Not that the stonegiants are that particularly better than the Furbolgs, but they aren’t considered intelligent or have their own real culture at least, and it gives the wallpaper a bit more majestic feeling… but anyway, I won’t rule out the idea of yours, it’s just a wallpaper so it could be fun to make a nightly camp with a Tauren ToL standing at a camp with several Furbolgs around.

Perhaps something in Mulgore with Carin Bloodhoof or ArchDruid Hamuul Runetotem. Or even the Barrens maybe with a tranquility graphic around the Tree of Life as if to heal the land. Those are the only real Tuaren areas I can think of offhand. You could use Moonglade but thats basically just Night Elf territory when it comes to a theme. Aszhara fits the autumn look of your Tauren skin but unless there is something I’m not aware of Taurens have little to no history in that zone as it a Night/Blood/High Elf area. Then again I may put too much importance on lore for a background =)

Whatever you decide on I’m sure will look great.

I play a Tauren Restro druid for a mid-way MH/BT guild. It would be great to see a Tauren version. I’ve still put this one as my background as it is still very nice :P (Shhhh, don’t tell Relinor tho!)

You could probably set the Tauren one in where ever you think is the most suitable area. If it was a late evening setting with orange/pink skies it would probably keep enough to the Autumn setting I guess. Perhaps late evening Mulgore with the Bluffs standing high in the background.

Anyway, thanks for the background. Looking forward to seeing any more you decide to do :)

Hey, thanks for the nice plug for my blog!
Direct Heals in Wrath (21)

Do you have a source on the coefficients thing? I can’t find a good source after some digging. Reading the official talents, it appears empowered rejuvenation is the same style of bonus, but did not get doubled. I’m not sure I see the logic in it relating to spell power. 40% of healing vs 40% of spell power should be the same relative increase no matter the coefficient being multiplied by. 40% spell power before hand is the same as 40% after the coefficient. Same for the...

Kelerain
Regarding the coefficient, I think the glyph would be complete garbage at half the coefficient. I can see no role for it to play there. Assuming a full coefficient, It seems to get somewhat poor HPM, but not unreasonably poor (in the range of a current HT or one-off regrowth). Nourish is much better in this department. It does seem, however, to get good enough HPS to make this a reasonable ‘tradeoff’, getting HPS numbers in the chain-regrowth-with-glyph range. If you had...

Phaelia
@Kelerain: The 1.4 change was made because of spell power changes. It was necessary to increase its bonus from 1.2 to 1.4 so that the overall bonus was unchanged. However, since we’re working with +Healing rather than spell power, the 1.2 is actually still the relevant statistic. You aren’t the first person to ask about that, though, so maybe I should have explained it in the article itself. Thanks for following up!

Kelerain
You really got me interested in this one. I’ve been playing with the HT Glyph analysis, and I may have uncovered an error. From above (and your spreadsheet): “CoefficientHealing Touch = Base Coefficient * Gift of Nature * Empowered Touch * Master Shapeshifter = 1.0 * 1.1 * 1.2 * 1.04 = 1.3728″ Empowered touch is now a 40% increase, instead of a 20% increase, giving: 1.0 * 1.1 * 1.4 * 1.04 = 1.6016 This is substantially better, and may influence your analysis. Ht...

Phaelia
@Kelearin: I do see what you mean about the potential for HT. It’s still not clear, though, if its casting time reduction will function the same way that Naturalist does (i.e., it won’t get a smaller +Healing coefficient, despite a faster cast time). It seems like a 1.5 second spell with a 100% coefficient would just be insanely OP. The fact that healing is reduced by 50% makes me suspect that they also reduce the coefficient, but we won’t know until those Glyphs are...

@Nyxtaru: Sadly, I didn’t realize Rank 1 roots were so effective until just recently. Poo. @Tone: To be honest, the loss of green armor is a bit disappointing for me, too. With Improved Tree of Life giving an armor bonus, I was looking forward to finding some myself. Although I guess there wouldn’t really have been any with healy stats. ^_^ Definitely going to try to shy away from cloth, tho! Great point about being able to role-shift during combat. @Tildir: That would be...

Wrath Recap (21)

Phaelia
@Tone: I agree, and I really worry about the viability of a “Cat Druid.” Rogues really struggle to justify their raid spots these days due to the superiority of ranged damage. How can a Druid compete if, as they’ve indicated, they still do less damage than a Rogue even when specialized?
