Well, I’m back after what feels like a month long vacation (or maybe that was just the 11 hour ride home from Los Angeles). We had a wonderful, wonderful time, and I can’t say enough great things about Carnival. Cruise vacations can be a tremendous value, especially if you don’t have your heart set on a room with a view. Following Bellwether’s recent examples, here are a few of my favorite pictures from our trip:

Dinner Silliness Valenna - This Ain't Thistle Tea! Margaritas in Puerto Vallarta Valenna and Me on the Beach Valenna Needs More Energy

I had originally intended on bringing research materials so I could work on a few articles for the site while I was away. Unfortunately, excessive indulgence in wine (21 bottles between the four of us) and Mexican tequila made this all but impossible. Nonetheless, I am working on a new series of articles related to the changes to mana regeneration coming in 2.4, something I’m very excited to share.

Because we were paying for Internet time by the minute and Valenna and I were sharing a little over 55 minutes, I didn’t have much time for surfing. What little time I did have was spent reading (but not responding to) e-mails and comments, doing some administrative stuff over at Blog Azeroth and watching my Google Reader unread item totals climb at an alarming rate. In fact, when I opened my reader this morning I was greeted by the following horrors:

google_reader_220_unread google_reader_druids_unread

I mostly skimmed subject lines, read the ones that sounded especially interesting (including all of your posts, of course), and guiltily clicked the "Mark all as Read" button. Ahhhh … much better! Restoration Druids have understandably been in a tizzy over the recently announced nerf to the Lifebloom coefficient, and Leafshine has put together a web log campaign for those interested in showing their support. For my part, I’ve been trying very hard to stay upbeat. It helps that I have mostly stopped PvPing and so am generally unaffected by most of the ridiculously overboard nerfs to the spec coming in 2.4. The Lifebloom nerf has been hard to swallow, though, especially in light of some of the improvements being given to other classes.

Anyway, while I loved our vacation, I’m relieved to be home and back at the Compose Draft screen. Please be a little patient as I catch up on comments and e-mails over the next few days!

    Aww Welcome back!
Cute photos and what a sight! Carnival is lovely; I’ve had wonderful experiences with them as well.

Welcome back Phae! Quick question for you on Spirit/Intellect. I’m wearing what I think is really typical druid gear, with Int at 502 and Spi at 415. I had more raw spirit than this in my Karazhan gear–it looks like ZA/badge gear didn’t give enough Spirit. Should I be prioritizing Spirit for future “upgrades” only, or would it be worthwhile to, say, try to bid on the Ethereum Life-Staff from Solarian for its Spirit when I have the Staff of Dark Mending, which is usually considered an upgrade from Ethereum but lacks Spirit? In other words, are we going to be changing our definition of what an “upgrade” is?

@Everyone: TY for the warm welcomes!

@Sydera: Sorry I’ve been so long in responding to your question. I’m actually working on something now that should help you out. Unfortunately, it’s turning into a larger project than I was expecting. GREAT question, though! :-)

Hey, thanks for the nice plug for my blog!
Direct Heals in Wrath (21)

Do you have a source on the coefficients thing? I can’t find a good source after some digging. Reading the official talents, it appears empowered rejuvenation is the same style of bonus, but did not get doubled. I’m not sure I see the logic in it relating to spell power. 40% of healing vs 40% of spell power should be the same relative increase no matter the coefficient being multiplied by. 40% spell power before hand is the same as 40% after the coefficient. Same for the...

Regarding the coefficient, I think the glyph would be complete garbage at half the coefficient. I can see no role for it to play there. Assuming a full coefficient, It seems to get somewhat poor HPM, but not unreasonably poor (in the range of a current HT or one-off regrowth). Nourish is much better in this department. It does seem, however, to get good enough HPS to make this a reasonable ‘tradeoff’, getting HPS numbers in the chain-regrowth-with-glyph range. If you had...

Phaelia
@Kelerain: The 1.4 change was made because of spell power changes. It was necessary to increase its bonus from 1.2 to 1.4 so that the overall bonus was unchanged. However, since we’re working with +Healing rather than spell power, the 1.2 is actually still the relevant statistic. You aren’t the first person to ask about that, though, so maybe I should have explained it in the article itself. Thanks for following up!

You really got me interested in this one. I’ve been playing with the HT Glyph analysis, and I may have uncovered an error. From above (and your spreadsheet): “CoefficientHealing Touch = Base Coefficient * Gift of Nature * Empowered Touch * Master Shapeshifter = 1.0 * 1.1 * 1.2 * 1.04 = 1.3728″ Empowered touch is now a 40% increase, instead of a 20% increase, giving: 1.0 * 1.1 * 1.4 * 1.04 = 1.6016 This is substantially better, and may influence your analysis. Ht...

Phaelia
@Kelearin: I do see what you mean about the potential for HT. It’s still not clear, though, if its casting time reduction will function the same way that Naturalist does (i.e., it won’t get a smaller +Healing coefficient, despite a faster cast time). It seems like a 1.5 second spell with a 100% coefficient would just be insanely OP. The fact that healing is reduced by 50% makes me suspect that they also reduce the coefficient, but we won’t know until those Glyphs are...

@Nyxtaru: Sadly, I didn’t realize Rank 1 roots were so effective until just recently. Poo. @Tone: To be honest, the loss of green armor is a bit disappointing for me, too. With Improved Tree of Life giving an armor bonus, I was looking forward to finding some myself. Although I guess there wouldn’t really have been any with healy stats. ^_^ Definitely going to try to shy away from cloth, tho! Great point about being able to role-shift during combat. @Tildir: That would be...

@Adremma: Oh, I’m sorry about the confusion. >.< Thanks for the correction! @Kalfurion: That store looks a lot like the Anthropologie stores we have in the States. I probably couldn’t afford anything there, either! :-D @Eglador: Thanks. Corrected! :-) @Graylo: Oh, my mistake!! I’ve adjusted the description to be more clear.
Wrath Recap (21)

Phaelia
@Tone: I agree, and I really worry about the viability of a “Cat Druid.” Rogues really struggle to justify their raid spots these days due to the superiority of ranged damage. How can a Druid compete if, as they’ve indicated, they still do less damage than a Rogue even when specialized?
