PTR Report: Resilience to Affect Mana Drain

MMO Champion is reporting that the latest build of the PTR includes a change to the PvP stat, Resilience, that will cause it to mitigate mana drains by the same percentage as it currently reduces the chance for critical strikes. This means that at maximum effective Resilience, mana drains will be mitigated by 25%. In conjunction with this change, the Warlock Mana Drain spell is increasing from a base of 200 damage every second to a base of 300 damage every second. Of course, one of the strengths of the Druid class is our protection against mana drains through shapeshifting into Bear Form and using Abolish Poison against Viper Sting. It remains to be seen how this change will play itself out.

From gear to Reputation grinds to non-combat pet collections, Blizzard seems keen to make players feel like they’re making progress. Unlike many competitors, however, they have yet to add the most significant, non-combat progression path: player housing.
Additionally, WorldofRaids reports that the four piece arena bonus for restoration druids has been changed changed on the PTR, yet hasn’t been documented.
Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t remember the last time I ever cast healing touch in an arena match. Nice one there, Blizzard.
I generally casti it once a match in conjunction with Nature’s Swiftness, but…yeah, wow, that looks dumb.
=/
Mana drain thing is nice though.
Well, at the same time the warlock mana drain’s base stats have been buffed by 50%
To offset resilience no doubt.
Warlocks
Drain mana (Rank 1) now drains 63 mana every 1 sec from the target. (Was 42)
Drain mana (Rank 2) now drains 102 mana every 1 sec from the target. (Was 68)
Drain mana (Rank 3) now drains 149 mana every 1 sec from the target. (Was 99)
Drain mana (Rank 4) now drains 204 mana every 1 sec from the target. (Was 136)
Drain mana (Rank 5) now drains 254 mana every 1 sec from the target. (Was 169)
Drain mana (Rank 6) now drains 300 mana every 1 sec from the target. (Was 200)
Priests, and hunters so far remain unchanged, but that’s no guarantee that they won’t be changed before the 2.4 patch is actually released.
An average warlock would have 1200-1600 spell damage on top of the base value, so in the end it’s a good change for mana users, and a bad change for warlocks.
You forgot a much more devastating news:
4-piece bonus on Restoration-spec Arena and PvP sets has been changed to “The casting time on your Healing Touch spell is reduced by 0.25 sec.” (Was a 15% increase to the outdoor movement speed before)
2/5 T6 in arenas, here i come
This is so LOL.
It’s a hidden Warlock buf and NOTHING else.
And heh, giving 0.25 To my Healing touch is like Giving A feral +0.5 duration on tiger’s fury.
OBJECTION!
This just in, Ferals lose Travel Form from their PVP4pc set bonus. Cat Form+PVP Set+ Feline Swiftness is now faster than Travel Form.
Priest wont change, the buff to locks is specifically because the nerf is for priests, not all mana drain. The official forums is full of people complaining about priests mana burning them. Maybe they’ll buff hunters I don’t know. Apparently locks are too busy killing us to mana drain us
I don’t know why because it’s a long cast time even with talents, very easy to counterspell or silence shot, or silence, or kick, or whatever. Or you know they can just kill the priest before he can cast it more than once. I really don’t understand the complaining about it. But then I don’t understand all the complaining about CC either. I mean, yeah it sucks, so what.
There is a problem with pvp or arenas, what do we do? Add it to resilience and forget about it!
I just think its funny when they need to fix somthing in arenas they just tack it on to resilience.
Runycat: Hey, thanks! I had checked MMO Champion before bed, but I didn’t think to look at World of Raids since they’re generally pretty synchronized. That is a HUGELY significant nerf (as reported on this morning). Also, I see you’re starting a blog! FINALLY!
I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
@BBR: For some reason, I was under the impression that Drain Mana doesn’t benefit from spell damage. Is that not so?
@Ammeli and Jaegor: Thank you also for clueing me in on the 4-piece set bonus nerf. At the very, very, VERY least … it’s been changed to Regrowth instead of HT.
@Yunk: I used to play 3v3s with a Paladin and a Warrior. I always felt a bit of pity for my Paladin friend because he was such a target for mana burns. I mean, if you’re going to choose between a Druid who can just turn into a Bear (costing herself some mana in the process but ensuring you are losing yours and not getting enough to make up for it) or a Paladin who is more or less defenseless outside of line of sight — which doesn’t work for stupid Warlock beams — you’re going to go for the Paladin. ^_^
@Zackoria: That is pretty funny, but I guess it kind of makes sense. Of course, it just widens the gap between newly-minted 70s who want to PvP competitively and the seasoned veterans. Maybe that’s why they’re adding more Reputation-based PvP options.
While I know so little about druids, I just need to point out that I totally love the Ben Folds Five reference.
@Doofy: <3 I’m so glad you got it! Jon from TBK was the only other person I know of who did.
