…Keeps the Armor Repairman Living in the Style to which He’s Become Accustomed
I started doing Daily Quests just last week. My interest was piqued after doing a couple of the Cooking Dailies and seeing my total gold jump up for so little effort. I now /kick /kick /kick myself for not having started doing them sooner as I’ve made a little over 700 gold in just a week or two. I’m sure the novelty will wear off sooner or later, but for now I’ve been working on a technique to do Blade’s Edge Mountains Daily Quests while I dry my hair in the morning since I sometimes don’t have time to do them before raids.
I’d like to give a shout-out to the Daily Quest guides that Big Bear Butt wrote. If you’re looking to get started on your path to piles and piles of gold (or just need to save for your epic flight form), these guides are an excellent resource:
One note that I will make about the BEM “Simon Says” quest is that I find it’s easiest to send myself a tell with the color sequence, rather than numbering each position or using a pen and paper. So for instance, “/tell Phaelia r b b g y y y”. Thanks very much to Valenna for this handy tip! Also, while BBB mentions that it can be difficult to wrangle Aether Rays without accidentally mauling them to death, I confess that I do not find this to be an issue with 50 points in Restoration. I have been using Insect Swarm, Moonfire, and Thorns to reduce their life while using Lifebloom and Rejuvenation to keep mine at a healthy level. This works very well for me, and I rarely have mana or health issues (I also recommend wearing your PvP set if you have one for the additional mitigation and hit points).

In light of the paradigm shift where neither Tailoring or Leatherworking creates Bind on Pickup epics, here’s help deciding between the additional benefits of these two production tradeskills.
About the “Simon says” dialy, I highly suggest you to grab the “Ogri’lazy” addon. It pops up a little interface with 4 colored buttons. Instead of having to writing down or whispering the sequence to yourself, you just push the buttons and it’ll keep the sequence on the screen. It’ll also sequentially clear the colors once you repeat it.
And once you get your epic flying, you’ll made another pile of money, since Netherwing has up to 9 dialy quests. I bought my lock’s Spellstrike set with the money I made from it, it’s really nice.
I have heard of Ogri’lazy, but I was told that it sometimes “messes up.” But I will give it a spin to see if it works for me – thanks for the reminder!
I haven’t yet started the Netherwing Dailies, but I’m going to soon. =)
First, thank you so much for saying nice things about the guides. I tried to be thorough…
Next, congartulations on enjoying the Dailies… especially the food. I like it a lot, especially since the food boxes tend to give me food to use on the next Daily Quest… hehehe.
On the Simon Says quest… I did a follow up article reviewing Ogri’lazy. I loved it then, and I love it now. It still works for me great. It is truly for the lazy, cause it pops up automatically when you start the quest. No opneing chat window, etc.
There is ONE teensy weensy problem… if you are SO lazy that you actually fail to follow the colors that Ogri’lazy CLEARLY shows is the next one, then you are hosed.
because ogri’lazy adds a clor when you click it… and then when you start activating colors, it automatically ticks a color off AS YOU SELECT ANY COLOR. So if you choose a wrong color, the Ogri;lazy dispaly ticks down to the enxt, assuming you knew what you were doing.
Only nailed me twice, but if you’re on an eight string and trusting to ogri’lazy to remember for you, and you entered one wrong… have fun.
In other news, in the last patch they massively nerfed how much damage you had to do to a nether ray to get it to be ready for wranglin’. Used to be you had to get it down to something on the order of 10% before it would be ready to wrangle… now it seems like he’s ready to wrangle at only 40% left. It makes an enjoyable difference.
Have fun Phaelia, and take care!
I’ve been using Ogri’lazy for a long time now, and haven’t had any problems with it, I give it a big thumbs up!
I’ve found Ogri’lazy very useful, though I was usually able to memorize the sequence without too much trouble before I got the add-on. My biggest problem is when I experience a lag spike and colours flash simultaneously! Then it’s either a guess (and often a ZAP) or wait for it to shut down and restart.
“So for instance, “/tell Phaelia r b b g y y y”.”
..Talking to yourself now? Should we worried, Phae?
@Riok: God, I hate that! I’m on the 8th sequence, lag spike, all the 4 colors zap at once. Grr…
I had a lot of trouble with the Simon Says quest because I’m partially colour blind (like a lot of men
). So what I do is I turn on the number pad’s Num Lock button and position myself at the crystal looking down on the buttons so that there is a button at each cardinal point. I then use a combination of the 2, 4, 6 and 8 keys on the number pad as they correspond to the cardinal points and type the sequence into /say. So, for instance, if a particular sequence is “left left, top, right, top, bottom”, I would type “448682″. It works very well for me.
@B3: Thank you very much for posting them. Your guides were what finally got me inspired to getting off my bum and gathering some guildmates for the Ogri’la prerequisites. I must say that the scene where you become the queen (or king) of the Ogres and they all dance around you was one of the highlights of my WoW career. There’s just something endearing about Ogres who hope you won’t kiss them. Haha.
@Everyone: Thank you for the heads up on Ogri’lazy (everyone) – I will try it out after all!
@Megan: I was actually surprised (and relieved) that there was no “Talking to yourself?” message like the one in EverQuest. And, while people might have a reason to be worried, sending myself tells is less odious than raiding while sauced. =D
@Dioxx: That sounds like a great system. I’m glad you found a way to make it work for you!
