Before the release of the Burning Crusade (back when the level limit was capped at 60), I was asked how ugly gear would have to be before I’d rule out wearing it for its stats. My response at the time was, “I’d wear a chicken on my head if it had 50 Spirit!” Well, if the images of Zul’Aman loot are any indication, it would appear that Blizzard has accepted my challenge. Our shiny new — ostensibly Tier 5 equivalent — armor and weapons appear to be made of just about every natural material one could find lying around in a field: dried grass, mud, feathers, rocks, pieces of bird nest, and paint colors that would offend the senses of even the most primitive peoples. As an example, look at the Helm of Natural Regeneration, an item that drops from Jan’alai:
Obviously, those are some pretty sweet stats. But then take a look at what it looks like when worn (pictured at left, preview courtesy of MMO Champion). While it isn’t exactly a chicken on your head, it instead makes YOU look like a chicken. Honestly, Blizzard, is this some sort of punishment for guilds unable to clear SSC for decent looking gear? Are we to be made fun of in our hula skirts of +50 STA and coconut breastplates of 120 +Healing? Actually, that would be kinda cute — at least on female Night Elves — so I’m sure there’s nothing of the sort in store for us. WTB visibility toggles for every slot!

Wrath of the Lich King made a number of fundamental changes to the game, many of which went through so many iterations that it can be difficult to get the facts. You can find a summary of these changes as related to the Restoration Druid in this extensive FAQ!
“WTB visibility toggles for every slot!”
Um. You’re such a pervert.
I can’t wait to call you “chickenhead”.
Look on the bright side, you’re not a tauren where 90% of the helmets looks like crap on you.
When talking about looks, know about some bright green boots for my warlock?

I’d be happy just to start with being able to toggle the shoulder slot. You can cover a lot of stuff with the two current toggles and a tabard, but there are some phugly shoulder armors out there that just need to NOT be seen.
I’d wear it.
I want it for the looks exclusively.
I suspect part of this stems from the complaints that arena gear is too indistinguishable from PvE gear. Now there’ll be no mistaking who’s in PvE gear (assuming you’re not facing folks in tier 6)….
Suddenly, I’m glad gear doesn’t show on our shapeshifted forms!
I’m suffering from a bit of an embarrassment of riches here. The Helm of Natural Regeneration dropped when I was still using the Malorne helm and I was obviously very pleased at the stats. Then I equipped it.
Oh.
Dear.
At least you can toggle it off. Aaaaaanyway, a week later the cloth Tier6 lookalike helm also dropped, and our Priest already had it.
Guess which of the three I wear now? I’m SUCH a fashion victim…
@Shinano: I have found that the tunic and pants (or skirt) I am currently wearing has a lot to do with how attractive my hat is. Certain hats like the T5 or (S2 lookalike) are so delicate they really need something elegant like a kilt or robe to look their best. On the other hand, the antlers on the T4/Season1 helm make it more Feral-looking and thus looks better with pants. Of course, the Chickenhead helm from ZA looks better … well, nothing makes THAT look better other than the toggle to make it invisible!
