It was recently announced that the mana regeneration while casting talents of both the Mage and Priest would be improved from their current 5/10/15% bonus to a 10/20/30% bonus in an upcoming patch. Apparently Intensity will be improved in the same way.

Looking at the way Priests and Mages [will have] their mana regen changed, I predict that Intensity talent will now regen mana at 10%/20%/30% rate.
… to which Blizzard Poster Bornakk replies:
Hmmm… we will make it so.
This is amazing news for most casting Druids (13 points in Restoration to pick up these talents make it a viable option for even our Balance-specced brethren) and will go a long way toward improving the desirability of Spirit vs. MP5.

Ty!
Oh… my… god…
(huge search btw, given source url doesn’t say anything, this one does: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=1778587320&sid=1&pageNo=1)
Bornakk is also saying:
“We don’t have any changes planned for Innervate, but we do plan to have Tranquility gain additional benefit from spell damage and healing bonuses.”
Still… 30% mana regen of spirit while casting… It’s pretty insane, 15% extra regen from spirit!!! That will pretty much equal up the amount of mp5 gained from similar spirit stat items in comparison to the equivalent mp5 items.
Somehow I can’t really see this happening.. It sounds unreal… It can change the way druids pick their gear and will be a huge buff if you consider the possibilities when mp5 from spirit increases.
I have to see it before I believe it…
It doesn’t make spirit more desirable than MP5. What it does do is make the spirit already on druid gear much nicer, and gives most resto druids a nice boost in their in combat regen. I really doubt we’ll see people completely changing their gear to get more spirit over MP5 than they already do.
Where does it say anything about spirit? All I read was 30% regen while casting. Doesn’t this mean that MP5 will benefit just as much as spirit?
The talent Intensity itself is being changed as the original post showed.
It affects the amount of mana regenerated via spirit only, not mana/5.
For a 5 minutes fight, if you wear Dragon cart blue dragon & Badge of endless blessing.
If you take into account : 1 proc of Bleue Dragon(worst case) & 4 proc of Badge, BoK +10% Spirit, Restau Talent +15% spirit, and 28s of full spirit regen (<10% of 5 minutes).
Then if you put with togever, mix in : one innervate and 30% spirit regen while casting
You get 1 Spirit < => 0.52 Mana/5s
1 Mana/5s< => 1,92 Spirit.
so let’s say 1 Spirit = 2 mp/5s
(if you take into account : time beetween pull, switch to a spirit weapon on innervate, … spirit break the edge)
Spirit is ineed alredy better than mp/5s if you have the choise(9heal/4spririt vs 9heal/2mp5s gems for exemple).
actualy with 15% intensity you have
1 Spirit < => 0.44 Mana/5s
1 Mana/5s< => 2.29 Spirit.
I know it doesn’t make spirit more desirable, but it at least makes it a bit more on-par with mp5.
It wouldn’t let you disgard a 20spirit item over a 8mp5 item immediately, but you’ll have to think about it now and consider the other stats as well.
20 spirit (with 30% regen) vs 8 mp5.
20 spirit is 5 mana per 2 seconds or 12.5 mp5. 30% of that is 3.75 mp5 at 100% IFSR. So for the food, I want the stuff that gives mp5.
If, however, I can spend as much as 20% of the time OFSR, the 20 spirit wins, with a nominal 5.5 mp5. (80% * 3.75 = 3, 12.5 * 20% = 2.5).
I’m almost never out of the 5 seconds to be honest, I always – and especially in raids – have multiple targets to heal.
You can get 1 tick outside the fsr if you just maintain 1 lifebloom stack, which is a valid option and can help your regen, but not at the cost of deaths. I’d rather have enough raw mp5 to be able to time my mana potion intakes and innervate so I’ll still be able to heal those last icky percentages a boss is still alive.
I’m very excited about this change. It’s going to make me reevaluate how I trade Spirit and MP5. I’ve been looking for the spreadsheet I used to calculate those values and will be sure to share my revised results when I have them!
