Featured: Mailbag: Leatherworking vs. Tailoring in WotLK

In light of the paradigm shift where neither Tailoring or Leatherworking creates Bind on Pickup epics, here’s help deciding between the additional benefits of these two production tradeskills.

Phaelia 2v2 and 3v3 Points Increased, Cyclone Buffed (Sorta)

Great news for Druids who selectively compete in smaller Arenas (where admittedly, we do our best):

Arena calculations have been modified. In addition, the penalty for smaller arena teams (2v2, 3v3) has been slightly reduced.

Let’s hope that “modified” doesn’t mean an across the board reduction with a compensatory increase for 2v2 and 3v3 Arenas (i.e., simply a nerf to 5v5 points).

And something else about the upcoming patch that I hadn’t considered:

  • Druids: Hibernate and Entangling Roots duration against PvP targets has been reduced to 10 seconds.
  • Hunters: Freezing Trap and Scare Beast duration against PvP targets has been reduced to 10 seconds.
  • Mages: Polymorph duration against PvP targets has been reduced to 10 seconds.
  • Priests: Mind Control duration against PvP targets has been reduced to 10 seconds.
  • Rogues: Sap duration against PvP targets has been reduced to 10 seconds.
  • Warlocks: Banish, Seduction, Enslave Demon and Fear duration against PvP targets has been reduced to 10 seconds.

These changes are an indirect buff to Druids, or at least to our 6-second crowd control ability, Cyclone. Because while the potency of Warlock Fear, Mage Polymorph, Hunter Freezing Trap, and Rogue Sap was reduced by 17%, our 6-second Cyclone remains untouched. In a manner of speaking, Cyclone is getting buffed 20% relative to the adjusted forms of crowd control.* Of course, our Entanging Roots ability is one of the forms of crowd control whose duration is being reduced, but Roots seldomly lasts its full duration anyway.

* The calculated 20% increase is based upon the fact that Cyclone currently lasts 50% of the duration of maximum length CC but will soon last for 60% of the duration. Increasing from 50 to 60% represents a 20% improvement over the original value (50 * 1.2 = 60).

At the same time, indirect nerf (really just a bug fix) due to Auras and Stances returning after Cyclone is over.

As it is now, Cyclone means one extra GCD for Pallies and possible loss of Rage for Warriors.

I REALLY hope that I’m seeing MORE points for my 2s team come next patch. They already nerfed the points gaining once… ENOUGH : /

Though the way they worded it definately makes it sound like an overall point reduction. You know blizz, when something is nerfed they say it all sneakily and when something is buffed it’s talked up. If we were seeing MORE points i’d assume it would read something like this:

“Arena point calculations have been altered. Most teams should see an increase in total points each week. In addition the penalty for smaller arena teams (2v2 and 3v3) has reduced.”

I did feel the same way when i read the patch notes for the first time Phaelia. “CC duration being reduced?! Woot for an indirect cyclone buff!”

The Sprout(ed) Seed (80)

Congratulations! Cute baby!

I’m so late that little Colin ain’t swimming on his mini-shirt anymore by now. And Mr. Phae and the classic “drooling daddy” face, priceless. Grats Phae and family!

First I want to say congratulations on your new baby boy, albeit a little late. As a Druid myself, formerly Resto even, I found this to be pretty awesome. I had my first child in October, also a boy. He just happens to have the exact same onesie that you’re little boy is wearing in the video. It’s my favorite outfit of his because I am my son’s superhero! As a side note, I hope you’re enjoying your new seed. They grow like weeds though and you start wondering...

I certainly never looked that good when I sprouted my seedlings. Thanks for all the great advice on this site. Things have changed a lot over the years and 60 was the highest you could go when I last played before this year. I got back into the game again about 6 months ago after taking a 4 year break when I was pregnant with my daughter.

@Terrorpaw: This information is vastly outdated. Notice that the article indicates patch 3.0.8 while the current version is 3.3. The amount of haste needed for resto druids to reach 1 second GCD has been shuffled considerably. I’ve been poking around on this site and I find it likely that much of the information here might be outdated.

Terrorpaw
Not to distract from your information, but this is confuddling to me. Everyone on the druid forums just touts that with CF and GOTEM you should see 735 haste on your character sheet? Are they just dead wrong?

Ck
This is actually really useful – thanks for this! Is it still current and user friendly? I somehow managed to get up to 740 Haste without trying, and even with scrapping all haste enchants and gems – I am still languishing on 723 :(

Ark Inventory (2)

I’ve been using this addon since I started playing some over a year now. I can’t imagine wow without it since. To swap bags you can right click the one you wish to free up and select ‘filter’. Then drag all the stuff into another bag. Also you could just swap a bag from inventory to your bank still full of stuff.
