One of the things that helps World of Warcraft retain its enormous playerbase is the multitude of personal goals which can be achieved with some degree of effort. Whether its maxxing a tradeskill or obtaining a rare, reputation-based flying mount, there’s almost always another carrot waiting to be worked toward. I achieved several personal goals this weekend, some of which I’ve been working towards since almost the release of the expansion!
After 30+ runs through Black Morass I finally reached Exalted reputation with Keepers of Time and was able to pick up the Timeless Shard:

Some players complain that the Timelapse Shard suffers from an identity crisis. The threat reduction is obviously intended for PvE use, but the Resilience and high Stamina would seem to points towards its usefulness in PvP. Luckily, it’s an epic item, giving it the stat points to make it useful in both. Wearing this trinket, I’m now at 175 Resilience when decked out in my PvP set. Hardly on par with Gronzy or Mookysolo, but I’m happy with it.
In addition to the long-coveted Timelapse Shard, I won the Nightstaff of the Everliving from Nightbane in Karazhan. While it won’t replace the Shard of the Virtuous I use in PvE or PvP, it will be a great Innervate weapon once I get it enchanted with Spirit. (And don’t worry, no one else was interested in bidding on the item.)

And finally after many weeks of scraping and saving, I was able to raise the 5,000 gold necessary to train Artisan Riding. I acquired the last 1,000 gold or so from the sale of a pair of Spellfire Pants which at least partially offset the ridiculous cost of having levelled Tailoring to 375. I’ve only just begun the quest series to acquire Swift Flight and am on the step where you have to travel to Evergrove. I hope to complete the questline over the next week or so.
I also respecced again last night. I must be less of a respec-aholic than many Druids, however, as the total cost to unlearn my talents was only 15 gold. My husband, Ebene, was encouraged by the fact that the most highly-ranked 2v2 team in the Reckoning Battlegroup is a Restoration Druid and an Arms/Fury Warrior and asked me to respec to a more PvP-oriented spec. I lost a lot of the Balance synergies that I was enjoying so much and decreased the effectiveness of my Healing Touch spell, but my HoTs are stronger, and I enjoy playing “Bear Rocket” across the Arena floor. Especially against Mages and Paladins. ZOOM! WHOOSH! ZOOM, ZOOM!
Even with all of these goals now complete, there are still several that I’m working towards:
- Completion of the Swift Flight quest
- Repaying the 900 gold debt I’ve incurred by borrowing money from my Warlock (so that she can get basic flight form)
- Acquiring the Forestlord Striders from Karazhan and the Essence of the Martyr trinket from Heroic badges
- Acquiring one or more pieces of General’s Kodohide armor from Battlegrounds (which can be grueling as an Alliance player)
- Raising my Leatherworking skill to 375 at some point before the next expansion is released
What about the rest of you? What personal character goals do you have at the moment? Maybe I could add to my list!

With the release of Wrath of the Lich King looming on the “soon” horizon, many players find themselves looking for ways to keep themselves busy. Here are 12 steps to ensure you’re as prepared as possible for stepping foot on the shores of Northrend. (Hint: buy warm boots)
congratulations on getting all of those goals accomplished
I’m hoping to get to level 60 and get a Raptor PvP mount (60 AV tokens will be killer). Then I want to level to 70, picking up enough pieces of gear along the way to be able to heal or dps moonkin any instance.
I imagine it must be quite difficult for Horde to save up AV tokens. Even more difficult than saving up any one type of the other BG tokens is for alliance since AV games often take longer. It sounds like Horde can instantly get into Alterac Valley whenever they want to, at least. For us, it’s an hour to an hour and a half wait just to farm some honor points. Good luck to you! If you can complete just 2 AVs a night, you should be able to get your mount within a month or so. You could even do so while levelling up to reduce some of the grind (both ways).
You’ll find the Moonkin gear to be quite plentiful levelling and instancing in Outlands (especially if you don’t shy from wearing cloth). Healing gear, on the other hand, is much harder to come by. I really think they didn’t itemize very well for healers who didn’t want to respec Balance, Feral, Shadow, Retribution, or … whatever it is that Shamans spec to PvE DPS. I suggest doing a little investigation ahead of time so you know where the healing upgrades come from on your way to 70. Kaliban’s Loot List for Druids might be helpful in this regard.
Thanks for responding!
Your list looks a lot like mine did, except that I got frustrated with caverns of time! Here’s my list:
Exalted consortium rep (~9k away)
Exalted Thrallmar rep (~2k away)
Talbuk (I really like them!)
Netherwing for money for rare leatherworking patterns.
Badge of Tenacity
Getting my swift flight was a huge one, I loved the boss fight, the chain as a whole was really cool. I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself.
Cool list, Aiuriun. I found Caverns of Time reputation frustrating, too, especially after I discovered that no … I couldn’t actually stand at Medivh with my husband’s mage and AOE trash for reputation (only certain mobs grant reputation, and I think you may have to aggro the Keepers and Lords). Still, 30-45 minutes for approximately 1100 Reputation isn’t horrible.
Talbuks are really cute. I think I’d like to get a gold ram with the pink saddle. I’ve only just started to notice those around lately. Which, I imagine, means I’ll need to do a lot more Alterac Valley battlegrounds to improve my Ironforge reputation. T_T
Good luck with your Badge. I have read unhappy tales on the official forums of Druids having a hard time acquiring one. Hopefully, your fortune will be better than some! =)
Done with the big personal goals on my druid:
Epic wolf! Was before the riding skill patch, and I didn’t want the frostwolf, since everyone else had that. After getting exalted with Orgrimmar I managed to buy timber instead of brown, and timber looks almost the same as frostwolf >.< Never bothered getting the brown, low on money now, and even shorter of banking space :)
Epic flight form. Had some problems getting group for heroic sethekk, but got it done a week after the other quests. Nice questline. Though, I had to rob my warlock for 2-3k gold, and he still don’t have his flying mount, though, he is my PvP alt, well, supposed to be that is :p Now I just do some instances with him.
375 LW and Windhawk set. The hard part was getting exalted with KoT to get the Drums of Panic recipe, cause using that recipe is just way cheaper than anything else. I actually went heroic OH and farmed some mobs there alone for rep. How? Simple, moonfire, IS, travelform
Currently I am leveling my hunter, all my leveling buddies leveled past me, cause I did not want a kodo mount, and I did not want to run around with only aspect of the cheetah :p Ended up buying Kodo when I hit 50 and figured out how much runecloth I needed for exalted with Orgrimmar, going for Frostwolf instead.

Thanks for the comments, Muda!
It seems like a lot of players’ personal goals revolve around one type of mount or another. I’m glad they’ve put so many different options into the game, even if I only think Nether Rays look good when mounted by a gnome. What I want to know is, where is my unicorn mount?
You mentioning the Windhawk set reminds me that I forgot to include 375 Leatherworking as one of my character goals. It’s one of the reasons I have levelled my Warlock. Having taken Tailoring and Leatherworking (double the bang for my buck on all reputation-based recipes), levelling LWing was going to be extremely expensive without another character to skin for me. I think my Warlock levelled from 67-68 just grinding Clefthoof in Nagrand. Thanks for the tip on Drums of Panic! My skill is only 266, so I’m not high enough to learn it yet, but it does look like the cheapest option.
It is always nice and refreshing to finally accomplish a goal you have had for some time.
Here is my list:
Epic Flight Form – Done
Badge of Tenacity – Done
Belt of Natural Power – Done
Dark Riding Talbuk – Done
Exalted Skyguard – Done
Exalted Ogri’la – Done
Exalted Netherwing – Need to start ugggg
I don’t have many other things I am going for that would classify as personal goals. The rest of my goals are all guild oriented.
I have a non-druid personal goal: Level my new Draenei priest to 70. Started her about 3 weeks ago and am sitting at level 42. The xp isn’t coming as fast as I’d like, but I’m an impatient man.
Good luck to everyone on your goals, and congratulations on those you have completed.
