There was a rumor floating around a few days ago that Blizzard was considering a reduction of the cost to learn Epic Flight, a cost which is largely prohibitive for many druids who would like to complete the Swift Flight Form quest. Community Manager Drysc responded to this rumor yesterday, saying:
Depending on how mount riding skills are going to progress, the most likely point for a price drop would be with the release of the next expansion, just as the ground mount prices dropped when Burning Crusade was released. Again it would likely depend on a few factors, and may actually not change. But that’s a question for a later time.
So for those who were holding off dropping 5k on training the ability to fly at epic speed, don’t worry. Even if we’re lucky enough to receive news of the next expansion at Blizzcon next week, it’s unlikely we’ll see it’s release for at least a year.

Wrath of the Lich King made a number of fundamental changes to the game, many of which went through so many iterations that it can be difficult to get the facts. You can find a summary of these changes as related to the Restoration Druid in this extensive FAQ!
Do you really think it will take a whole year for the next expansion? Blizzard has said they want to be closer to 1 expansion pack a year after the first one. I wouldn’t be surprised with an early 2008 release
I would be pretty surprised if we saw a release that soon. I’d say late 2008 is more likely, although I think whatever timeframe is given will be 3-6 months sooner than the eventual release. Luckily, Burning Crusade has a TON of content that I still have yet to explore, so I’m not really chomping at the bit for new and exciting things to do. (Although if Player Housing is ever announced as a feature of the next expansion, I’ll die a little inside every day its release is delayed.)
haha, ditto on the player housing. That would be tough to wait for once we knew it was definitely coming.
Secretly I agree with you on the release date, it just makes me feel better to pretend that this will be the one time Blizzard doesn’t delay their release…
I am excited to see all the TBC content too. As soon as my main rogue hit 70, I got suckered into leveling a Paladin to 70 for our arena team. Only after I hit 70 and specced Holy did I realize how boring Paladin healing because I had leveled as Protection. So I ditched him and started leveling this new druid (39 now), so I really haven’t seen any of the 70 content in TBC yet. So much to do, so little time!
